Manager Louis van Gaal however feels the 24-year-old has been badly affected by the reports about his future and has dropped him from the Saturday, August 8 lunch time fixture.
“De Gea will not play. I don’t have any concerns. He won’t start the game,” Van Gaal said.
“I think a human being is more than only a player. He cannot manage it. You have to wait and see who will play.
“I don’t know the solution with De Gea, that is the process. Still you repeat the question.
“I cannot lead this process, I can only watch and observe and that is what I’m doing. I’m not participating in it.
“When it is not like that I accept it because I know when I became manager of Manchester United, every transfer period is a process. I’m fighting against the transfer period.
“I know what is the process like and what it means for clubs and managers. It is not easy for De Gea to manage his situation now.’
Sergio Romerio who has just been sign is expected to make his League debut against Tottenham while young goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is also under serious consideration after playing in four matches on United’s pre-season tour of America.
