One of the fast-rising female Nigerian artistes, Oluwaseyi Joshua, popularly known as Seyi Shay, is becoming a notable voice to reckon with in the entertainment industry.
With songs like Irawo and Murda, which enjoy massive airplay, the 29-year-old singer acquired the 2014 edition of Hyundai ix35 few weeks ago. She reportedly expressed her delight on her Instagram page. She wrote, “And he used Hyundai to be the blessing! I copped this 2014 Hyundai jeep evolution with full spec the other day for a bargain!
“It’s really smooth, economical, cheap on gas and perfect for a young working class spinster like moi that needs a Lil run around car!”
The price of the car starts from about N4.4m for the base model and higher models could cost up to about N6.2m.
The 2014 ix35, which comes in four trims; Active, SE, Elite and Highlander, is designed to improve driving pleasure.
Apart from the ride quality that the 2014 ix35 offers, it is powered by a base 2.0L engine, which delivers an outstanding mix of power and agility. The ix35 comes in three engine choices, which are either petrol or diesel. Available are 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel and 2.4-litre petrol engines, with either 2-wheel drive or four-wheel drive option.
Fuel consumption for the base engine is 8.4 litres/100km, 9.8 litres/100km for the 2.4-litre petrol engine, which has quicker acceleration and 7.2 litres/100km for the 2.0-litre diesel engine.
The tank capacity is 55 litres and all the three engines have either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission, delivering the sweet spot for acceleration, efficiency and refinement.
Available as an option on the ix35 is the Intelligent Stop and Go, which cleverly switches off the engine when the car comes to a halt and restarts it when the driver matches the clutch.
The five-seater SUV offers improved styling both inside and outside as well as silver highlights around the cabin and some features available in some models are options on others. The ix35 features include satellite navigation system with 7.0-inch touch screen, a clever rear view camera to make parking even easier, standard six speakers with amplifier and sub-woofer, tyre pressure monitoring system, 17” alloy rims, practical cabin with plenty of space, storage compartments and a large boot.
The car prides itself as one of the safest cars in its class with its comprehensive safety features, giving the ix35 a maximum five star in the ANCAP crash safety rating. Every ix35 is fitted with six airbags, child safety door locks, front, front side and full length curtain airbags, anti-lock braking system, great towing capacity and Trailer Stability Assist. The TSA reduces engine power and applies braking to the correct wheels.
Other features are seatbelts-pre-tensioners, alarm system, remote anti-theft, central locking remote control, engine immobiliser, crash prevention or minimisation units and rear sensors on all models.
Hyundai says it’s confident enough to offer a five-year unlimited mileage and fully transferable warranty on the vehicle.
The Hyundai ix35 offers comfortable ride and a quick and responsive Microsoft-based infotainment system. It is designed to carry four adults for long distances without complaints and those with kids will also be pleased with the second-row seating position that allows easy access in and out for the little ones with an expansive boot.
The good: Apart from its nice design, the ix35 has improved ride quality, steering response, safety, refinement, spacious head- and leg-rooms for both driver and passengers to travel in optimum comfort and a huge five-year warranty.
The bad: Reviewers say the rear camera, which is only available on the top models, is a disadvantage for a car of its class, that the automatic transmission was indecisive in certain situations, such as hills and the tyres have a below average levels of grip on wet lands.
